2011 Parade of Ponds!

Sponsored by Barren River Long Term Care Ombudsman Program

On Saturday July 16, 2011 the Barren River Long Term Care Ombudsman Program held its second annual “Parade of Ponds.” Very similar to a Parade of Homes, the Parade of Ponds showcased water features, water gardens, fountains and Koi fish ponds in Bowling Green and Warren County! There may be a possibility of expanding the event to other surrounding counties in the future.

Proceeds from the Parade of Ponds benefited the Barren River Long Term Care Ombudsman Program which is an advocacy group for residents living in nursing facilities, personal care homes and family care homes in the 10-county BRADD area. Ombudsman representatives visit residents in long-term care, educating them about their rights and helping to resolve complaints they have about their care. The Ombudsman can discuss the resident’s concern with staff in order to clarify changes that may be needed to resolve the concern and/or improve the resident’s quality of care. Ombudsmen also make referrals to other agencies and provide assistance to resident and family groups.

Also, this year, the Ombudsman Program partnered with Alex’s Lemonade Stand, an organization that fundraises for childhood cancer research. On the day of the event, lemonade stands were set up at the ponds giving pond goers the chance to enjoy some refreshments and make a donation to another great cause.

Thanks to all who came out for this year’s Parade of Ponds! If you would like to be added to our Parade of Ponds mailing list or are interested in the possibility of your own pond being included in the parade, please call 1-800-355-7580.
